Congratulations to Professor Pearl Quijada on being selected as 2022-23 UCLA Society of Hellman Fellow!  The UCLA Society of Hellman Fellows provides support and encouragement for the research of promising Assistant Professors who show capacity for great distinction in their research in the UCLA College of Letters and Science and the Professional Schools (excluding the School of Medicine and the School of Dentistry). The fellowship will support research and creative activities that promote career advancement and enhance the individual’s progress toward tenure.

Professor Hsiao and her lab study the trillions of microbes the body contains in the gut microbiota that impact health and disease.

Congratulations to Professor Amy Rowat, who has received a National Science Foundation BRITE Fellow award that will provide $995,000 of research funding over five years! This is the first time the foundation has given out these awards, which allow researchers to explore bold and ambitious ideas. Professor Rowat, the Marcie H. Rothman Presidential Chair of Food Studies, will research cells as materials to advance fundamental knowledge of cellular mechanical regulators and help sustain food production despite climate change and disruptions from natural disasters or epidemics.
